On June 10, 2022, the delegation of Gemalink International Port and Gemadept Corporation, with the support of Tra Vinh Provincial Government as well as the contribution of local people, held the Seed for Sea Project Launching Ceremony.
Seed for Sea project is a project initiated by Gemalink Port to contribute to providing solutions to reduce climate change, greening bare land, conserving biodiversity and protecting living environment for people. In this launch, the Seed for Sea project is piloting 4,000 danger of becoming extinct trees to restore mangrove forests in the Mekong Delta. This is also a project to mobilize resources of the Vietnamese business community for a greener planet.
The planting of mangroves not only has a positive effect on the atmosphere, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also contributes significantly to the conservation of biodiversity. In addition, the improved ecosystem also brings local people many economic benefits, tourism and exploitation of agriculture, forestry and fisheries.
The Seed for Sea project not only 'seeds' for the sea but also 'seeds' for the future, in order to raise the awareness of the people, and especially the students, the future of the country on protection in our common environment. The representative of Gemalink port coordinated with the local government to share knowledge about the importance of forest regeneration and conservation for students at Long Vinh C Primary School.
Also in the ceremony, the representative of Gemalink Port also awarded scholarships to students with extremely difficult circumstances to support and encourage them both physically and mentally, helping them to continue their efforts, strive on the path of study as well as protect the living environment and develop the homeland.
The Seed for Sea community project has been and will continue to call for more contributions from the Vietnamese business community, including partners and customers of Gemadept and Gemalink, as well as businesses participate in the shipping supply chain.
In addition to the Seed for Sea reforestation project, Gemalink is also studying an option to plug in shore power for ships, which is expected to be deployed this year. Instead of the mother ship having to turn on the generator (powered by Diesel) when docking as now, this Green project of Gemalink Port will completely eliminate the need to burn fuel as well as the entire amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated from ships docking at Gemalink Port in the near future.
With 'Green' projects combined with investment in electric-powered port equipment and continued investment in renewable energy development, Gemalink Port aims to reduce direct emissions from the exploitation of the port to the lowest level in Cai Mep Port area, Ba Ria – Vung Tau.
